Ingredients

My inner foodie gets so excited thinking about all the new food trends to embrace next year. I’m going to clue you in on a few of my favorites, which I’m including in this wild blueberry lavender smoothie:

Floral ingredients

You can expect to see both fresh and dried herbs in everything from smoothies to lattes to pancake syrup. Lavender, rose, and hibiscus will be highlighted flowers this year.

My personal favorite is lavender because it’s so calming! A mixture of dried edible flowers can make a beautiful topping for this wild blueberry smoothie.

Powders

While powdered peanut butter has long been growing in popularity, we’re going to see even more powdered ingredients gaining rank, from matcha to powdered eggs.

If you want to add extra protein to a recipe, powdered eggs and powdered egg whites are good options because they’re less processed than many other protein powders.

The protein helps keep your blood sugar levels stable and helps to keep you feeling fuller for longer.

I don’t usually suggest protein powders, but egg powder is a one-ingredient, food-based product I can actually get behind. Want to try egg powder yourself? Here are good picks:

Wild ingredients

As you probably know, I’m a big fan of wild ingredients such as wild blueberries because these foods can contain more nutrients than some of their conventional counterparts.

Wild blueberries, for example, offer twice the antioxidants of cultivated blueberries—and eating an antioxidant-rich diet may help decrease the risk of cancer and heart disease. Now, let’s chat about how to make this wild blueberry lavender smoothie!

I decided to combine these three food trends into one delicious lavender blueberry smoothie, so I blended together frozen wild blueberries with dried lavender and powdered eggs.

Recipe FAQ

Is a blueberry lavender smoothie good for a workout snack?

It definitely is! The wild blueberry smoothie recipe is made with a few protein-offering ingredients, including milk, plain Greek yogurt, and powdered eggs.

That blueberry Greek yogurt combo is delish! Because of this, it offers an excellent amount of protein, 28 grams, which would also make it a great choice to sip post workout to help build and repair muscles.

Is a blueberry lavender smoothie vegan?

It’s not, but it’s easy to make the smoothie vegan. You’d need to swap out the Greek yogurt for plain soy yogurt and the milk for soy, almond, or oat milk.

Then you can either omit the egg powder, or you can trade it for hemp or pea protein, which are both vegan.

What can I do with leftover egg powder?

You can blend egg powder into pretty much any smoothie recipe, such as a Layered Strawberry Orange Smoothie or a Healthy Avocado Smoothie with Grape Juice, for a protein boost. You can also mix it into an Avocado Chocolate Mousse.
