A Healthy Dessert Dip Recipe
I come from a long line of sweet tooths–to say I love dessert would be an understatement. But as a dietitian, I aim for desserts I eat at home to be healthier and on the lighter side and lower in total sugar.
This is why I set out to make my very own sweet chips with berries. I figured this is a healthier way to eat dessert, plus the recipe feels a bit like a healthier side dish.
To make the base of sweet chips, I used a low-calorie, higher-protein flatbread. The combo of fiber and protein that it contains helps to keep you fuller for longer. That’s more than you can ask for from most desserts!
Making dessert chips from the flatbread is super easy, thanks to a favorite culinary tool, kitchen scissors. I simply treated a non-stick cookie sheet with cooking spray, cut some flatbreads, and placed those pieces on a cookie sheet. I covered the chips with cooking spray and nutmeg sugar, and then baked them—they were ready in minutes.
You can also make other really delish recipes with flatbread pizza crust, too!
A Fruity Chips Dip Topping
As a topping for the dessert chips, I whipped up a creamy spread with protein-rich cottage cheese and plain Greek yogurt—and sweetened it with a little bit of lemon juice and honey.
Then I topped the chips with berries and lemon zest. Oh, this dessert dip is delicious! The best part is the healthy chips and cottage cheese dip are simple enough to make for a weeknight dessert, yet they’ll also impress your dinner guests. The nutritious dip also doubles as a healthy snack.
Ready to make a delicious, easy dessert? I can’t wait to hear what you think of this cottage cheese dip with sweet chips! Plus, the chips are healthier than graham crackers as a dipper!
I personally prefer these sweet chips to more savory ones like sea salt tortilla chips or olive oil potato chips. And they’re plenty sweet, without the need for chocolate chips!
By the way, if you’re not a fan of berries, you could cut and roast sweet potato slices (use a knife or mandolin slicer), sprinkle them with cinnamon, and use those as a dipper.
