Bananas: I eat a lot of bananas. I always have a bunch at the ready in the kitchen, and I often grab one when I’m running out the door. A banana is the perfect portable fruit, as it doesn’t get crushed as easily as some other options.

Powdered peanut butter and cocoa powder: These ingredients add natural sweetness, without any added sugar. You also get filling protein from the peanut butter.

Coconut: This is optional but adds some nice crunch and additional sweetness to the dairy-free chocolate pudding recipe.

FAQ

What non-dairy milk is best for pudding?

Just about any type of non-dairy milk can be used as an ingredient to make pudding. This dairy-free chocolate pudding recipe doesn’t contain any type of milk, but many dairy-free pudding recipes do contain milk.

The fat in milk provides a creamy texture to pudding. You’ll want to look for a dairy-free milk alternative that contains some fat. The best non-dairy milks for pudding are oat, soy, or coconut milk.

What can I substitute for milk in pudding?

There are many different ingredients that you can substitute for milk in pudding. First, you can use plant-based milk as a substitute.

Try coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, almond milk, or cashew milk. Note that you can use water as a substitute for milk in pudding as well!

Is instant pudding dairy free?

Instant pudding mix is typically dairy free in and of itself, but the instructions almost always call for mixing it with milk.

While you can substitute that for a non-dairy milk or water, I recommend making your own pudding at home, like this dairy-free chocolate pudding recipe!

Making DIY vegan chocolate pudding will give you better control over the ingredients and you can make it according to your preferences.
